What is the PAC?
The Herbert Spencer Elementary School Parent Advisory Council (PAC) is a committee made up of all the parents of the children at Herbert Spencer school. The primary purpose of the PAC is to represent Herbert Spencer parents and to focus on the best interests of the school students. Another important role of the PAC is in helping to support all parents to be involved and informed on school issues and to help parents advocate for their children at the staff, school and district levels.
The PAC operates under a published Constitution and a yearly elected Executive Committee which consists of members that have specific responsibilities within the PAC. The elected positions include a Chair, Vice-Chair, Treasurer, Secretary, District PAC Representative, and ten Members-at-Large positions. The current Executive list can be accessed under the Main menu.
What does the PAC do?
Well, the PAC does many things. The PAC facilitates information sharing and discussion of school issues amongst parents. Parent involvement in school activites is also facilitated through monthly planning meetings and organisation of parent volunteers.
The PAC also plays a major role in fundraising for the school and initiating and organising some school activites that might otherwise not be possible based on current school funding. The PAC also periodically prepares Grant proposals applying for government funding for specific initiatives such as playground equipment etc.
Fundraising
The PAC helps to raise funds primarily through yearly fundraising activities such as the Hot Lunch Program, the fall Craft and Bake Sale and the Innisbrook Gift Wrap sale. A certain amount of PAC funds are also provided by the Provincial Gaming Fund.

Come out, Get Involved, and Feel Connected to your child's school
The PAC meets on the first Thursday of every month (during school terms) in the school library and all parents are welcomed and encouraged to attend. Most meetings run approximately two hours in length and follow a published agenda however "new business items" are always welcome.
In addition volunteers are always needed to help with activites, and every set of hands really makes a difference - yours will too! If you haven't yet signed up as a volunteer send us your name and a number to reach you and we will contact you. If you are curious about volunteering for any specific fundraisers or school actitivies but unsure of what might be involved just ask any member of the PAC Executive or contact our Volunteer Coordinator for more information.
